Intentionally // Boulder engagement photos

Tis the crazy season for Colorado wedding photographers, and this has been one of the busiest on record.  It's a season I adore, yet if I'm not careful, an entire summer can blow by like a gust of wind, leaving my life windblown.  

Last year was one such season.  I was so twitter-pated by wedding season that I missed out on exploring life with the man of my own dreams.  I was busier than I had ever been, and loving life.  Midway through the season, I started mourning the adventures that I was missing out on in my own life, and decided to re-evaluate the pace I was keeping.

Love is important to me.  I'm almost embarrassed to say that out loud.  After all, love is a vital part of who I am and what I love about weddings, and during the last wedding season, I neglected cultivating love with my own family.  

I decided to be intentional about protecting the time that I spend with my husband, and in turn, creating creative space that allows me to bring my very best to every. single. wedding.  I believe we can have anything we want, but not everything.  Setting boundaries is helping me to have exactly what I want and crave in life.  I hope it will inspire you to do the same.

The best thing about being a Colorado wedding photographer is getting to meet beautiful, spirited couples who love the great outdoors.  Jacque and Sean decided to marry atop San Sophia in Telluride Colorado, which made for gorgeous wedding photos and simply beautiful smiles.

Boulder engagement photos // Ashly + Jenia

You know what I love about this job?  I get to interact with couples as they're building a foundation for their marriage, and I get to work with people that make my heart sing.  In years past, I had some pretty terrible fits, which has made me incredibly picky about the couples I want to work with.  What makes someone a good fit for me is good for us all.  So, what makes a good fit?    

Couples that are passionate about living simply and loving boldly are my very favorite, because we "get" each other.  When you tell me that you are passionate about exploring life together, I'm intrigued.  When you follow that up with the fact that your wedding is about your love story, surrounded by people who love you dearly, you've got me.

You see, I love couples who would rather laugh their faces off than look perfect in every single photo.  Couples who would rather experience the deep joy of getting married than be worried about letting a tear stain their cheek.  I adore emotion, and I love all of my couples who are so free to express it in front of me.  Of course, that often doesn't happen overnight, which is why I love engagement sessions and chats over coffee.  

Speaking of engagement photos and emotion, I knew that Ashly and Jenia were going to be my kind of couple the minute I met Ashly.  She laughed easily over coffee, and laughed and laughed with Jenia during their Boulder engagement session.  ...and they were the first couple I've ever photographed that broke out in an actual, legit dance in front of me (as in, they took lessons and showed me their dancing skills).  Love.

Love stories // Denver engagement photos

What makes for a good love story?  Is it all about gushing glances and smooches (or huggie-bear, kissy-face as my dear old Dad used to call it)?  I think that the expression of love depends on the couple.  I see all sorts of love languages as a Colorado wedding photographer, and one size doesn't fit all.  

However, what seems to fit all love stories are the characters.  The characters are vulnerable and open to experience uncharted territory.  After all, love is a risk, and the more you open your heart and soul to another, the more vulnerable you are.  However, it's in that vulnerability that love stories are made.  

Couples that allow themselves to be unguarded allow themselves to make deep connections.  These are the couples that dance in the streets to their own music, not caring how silly they may look.  ...and as a photographer, it makes for the best photos around.

Brooklyn and Aaron are beautiful characters in a beautiful love story, and I was honored to capture their engagement photos in Denver.  We explored Riverfront Park and discovered alleyways and old buildings on Colfax for some fun.  I hope you enjoy their photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

These two are sweetness and joy to photograph.  They danced and laughed as the sun was setting, and never took themselves too seriously.  I heart that about them, and had so much fun taking their Boulder engagement photos.

Two lovebirds singing sweetness to one another.  Though I never heard a tune, I felt it.

A Villa Parker Wedding // Colorado wedding photographers

What's a girl to do when she wants to connect with her groom before the wedding, but not see him?  She holds his hand, plain and simple.  Shannon and Josh were wed at Villa Parker this weekend, and I was honored to be their wedding photographer.  In the coming weeks, I will be sharing more of their wedding photos.  Until then, I wish the happy couple a wonderful first week as husband and wife.

Waiting for Telluride // Colorado wedding photographers

My heart wants to share, but I must wait for a beautiful Telluride wedding in May to reveal a few beautiful photos of one beautiful woman as she gets fitted for her bridal gown at Anna Be Bridal.  Jacque is one of those people that you want to hug the first time you meet her.  She's warm and radiant on a daily basis, so I can hardly wait to see how full of joy she is going to be on her wedding day.  Joy amplified?  Joy squared?  It's going to be beautiful and full of smiles, which is like a wedding photographers dream.  Pair that with the fact that it's going to be located in the breathtaking Telluride, and it's a Colorado wedding photographers dream, amplified.    

Until then, enjoy a few images from the bridal gown collection at Anna Be.  It was my first bridal fitting captured, and the ladies were absolutely lovely and the gowns were like delicate candies on a shelf, waiting to be indulged.
